A Holy Yes

1 Samuel 15:22 – “But Samuel replied, “What is more pleasing to the Lord: your burnt offering and sacrifices or your obedience to his voice? Listen! Obedience is better than sacrifice, and submission is better than offering the fat of rams.”

God began planting seeds of a heart for missions when I was in elementary school, and then He  provided opportunities for me to participate on several short-term mission trips as a high schooler and college student and even into adulthood. The call to take the love of Jesus to the nations was prevalent throughout my life. Even now as I look back, I see God working His will and His plans into my journey.

Several years ago, God reawakened my dream to go to the nations. Everywhere I looked, I saw God putting a reminder in my life of my heart for missions. Then I met Terry. Through our meeting and eventual marriage, God brought two people together with vastly different backgrounds and experiences and placed in them a call to serve Him on the mission field. In the last several years, God continued to nudge and speak to us about the nations and gave us a vision for “You Matter.”  What started out as a simple phrase seen in the eyes of hungry people in Mulato, Mexico, became a reality through a ministry that has a heart for the nation of Mexico and beyond. You may ask, “What came after God began to speak to your heart?”

A holy yes.

A holy yes that at every step and turn in this unknown journey I would follow.

A holy yes that at every next decision that needed to be addressed my heart would bow in surrender and yield.

A holy yes that could not comprehend the details God was orchestrating but trusted in the truth that He “was working all things together for my good” (Romans 8:28).

A holy yes to do the next hard thing, even when everything in me would want to stop.

Sometimes our yes does not come easy but God delights in our obedience. So in this season of uncertainty, I trust that my simple yes and my obedience to show up will be enough and bring glory to my King.

Is there an area of your life that God is stirring or requesting a holy yes from you?
